KUALA LUMPUR, 30 Oct - A chicken slaughterhouse premises in Puchong has been subject to legal action after it was found to be in violation of Malaysia's Halal Certification Procedure Manual.
In an operation carried out by the Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) together with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) last night (Oct 29), various non-compliance with halal procedures and health aspects were also found at the location.
Selangor KPDN director, Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey pointed out that the Op Kita Gempur operation which started at 8pm was carried out after receiving public complaints against the slaughter premises.
"The results of the inspection found that the slaughtering process was carried out outside the premises and this is a repeated mistake committed by this company, major non-compliance, the absence of halal inspectors for the slaughtering process and violations of good manufacturing practices (hygiene)," Mohd Zuhairi said after the raid last night (Oct 29).
"Furthermore, the unsanitary condition of the premises and the violation of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) raise concerns about hygiene and health standards," he added.
According to Mohd Zuhairi, apart from halal violations, the inspection also found the use of four units of unverified weighing equipment and 13 barrels of subsidized liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) without valid permits for commercial purposes, adding that the premises involved would be subject to legal action under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 and the Supply Control Act 1961.
Meanwhile, commenting on the violation of Malaysia's Halal Certification Procedure Manual, Mohd Zuhairi said the case will be brought to the Selangor Halal Technical Committee Meeting to reassess the halal certificate status of the premises.
"This is to reassess the status of the halal certificate of the premises involved. If the halal certificate of this premises is revoked, the use of the halal logo for their business will be prohibited.
"If it continues, legal action under the Trade Description Act 2011 may be imposed on the premises involved," he said.
