JOHOR BAHRU, March 28- 97 percent of accident cases in Op Selamat Aidilfitri in Johor over the past two years were caused by negligence by highway users, while the rest involved technical issues such as vehicle malfunctions and road factors.
Johor Police Chief, Datuk M. Kumar said, 1,328 accident cases with 15 deaths were recorded throughout Op Selamat Aidilfitri 2023, while 1,069 cases with 14 deaths were recorded last year.
He told the media after officiating the Road Safety Advocacy Program in conjunction with OP Selamat Aidifitri 2025 in Johor Bahru, Johor.
The police have also identified 47 major congestion locations and 36 locations where accidents often occur in Johor this year.
Meanwhile, around two million users are expected to use highways in Johor throughout this festive season.
He added that 1,998 officers will be involved in monitoring traffic flow in conjunction with Op Selamat Aidifitri this year, while another 690 will be on crime prevention patrols.
