MARANG, Oct 31 - Government pensioners will benefit from the same increase enjoyed by current civil servants in line with the new salary adjustment of civil servants.
Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz said it will be implemented based on adjustments to the pensioners' final salary.
He said the salary adjustment shows the government's consideration for them to receive wages which commensurate with the services rendered in the government.
"In this context, it can be said that in the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), there is certainly an adjustment in the salaries of current officers, while for those who have retired there will certainly be adjustments made in relation to their pensions.
"Actually, in the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM), we used to have a certain amount received by retirees based on their final pay and when we re-implement the new remuneration system, there will be an additional amount based on the percentage agreed by the government.
"In other words, pensioners will enjoy an increase as the one given to those who are currently working," said Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan to reporters after visiting two government retirees who suffered from health complications, namely brain tumour and spinal tumour, in the Marang district.
The programme aims to convey the Government's concerns to its retirees, as well as to show appreciation for the service that retirees have contributed to the government.
