KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18- The Dewan Rakyat today received the first official visit from a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament led by Speaker of the House of Commons’ Lindsay Hoyle.
His arrival at the Malaysian Parliament was welcomed by the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul and the Speaker of the Dewan Negara, Senator Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.
"To Your Excellency Sir Lindsay Hoyle and the delegation, we welcome this historic visit to the Dewan Rakyat.
"We are confident that this visit will further strengthen the long-standing friendly relations between the Parliaments of Malaysia and the United Kingdom," said Johari before commencing the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
As part of the visit, Lindsay held separate bilateral meetings with both leaders of Parliament to discuss efforts to strengthen legislative relations between Malaysia and the United Kingdom.
He also witnessed the Dewan Rakyat sitting and inspected the proceedings at the Parliament building.
