KUALA LUMPUR, February 16- One of the biggest challenges facing the country today is the lack of understanding among the people towards religious and cultural diversity.
According to the Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, the issue is often a source of misunderstanding that leads to the formation of negative perceptions towards different ethnicities and religions.
"This negative perception not only affects inter-racial relations but also exacerbates feelings of suspicion and tension in society.
Therefore, it is very important for us all to realise that one of our main agendas is to increase understanding of religions and cultures of various ethnicities," Datuk Aaron told reporters.
He said this in his speech at the Harmoni 2025 Federal Territories Day Celebration and the Harmoni Parade Programme at Dataran Merdeka which was also attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa and the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif.
He added that recognising and understanding the values of each religion and culture is an important step in fostering harmony.
Diversity is not an obstacle, but it serves as an opportunity to celebrate every race and religion in our society.
