KUALA LUMPUR, 28 December- Rapid KL will extend the operating hours of rail and bus services until 3 am on January 1st 2025, while some selected bus routes will operate until 3.30 am to meet the needs of city dwellers in conjunction with the New Year 2025 celebrations.
Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), in a statement, announced that the move aims to make it easier for the public to attend celebration events around the city center while ensuring a comfortable and smooth journey home after the event ends.
The extension of operations involves 18 rail stations, four Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations, and 20 main and intermediate bus routes.
Here is a list of rail and BRT stations that will operate until 3 am:
- Kelana Jaya Line: KLCC, Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni, Ampang Park.
• Ampang/Sri Petaling Line: Masjid Jamek, Bandaraya, Hang Tuah, Maluri.
• Monorel Kuala Lumpur: Bukit Bintang, Hang Tuah.
• Kajang Line: Bukit Bintang, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Pasar Seni, Mutiara Damansara, Maluri.
• Putrajaya Line: Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Persiaran KLCC, Ampang Park.
• BRT Sunway Line: Sunway Lagoon, SunMed, SunU-Monash, South Quay-USJ 1.
Other stations will end their operations as usual, but users can still exit at the station if needed.
Apart from that, the train frequency schedule on all routes will be increased, starting from 7.30 pm on December 31st 2024 until 3 am on New Year to provide additional convenience.
Here are some of the main bus routes that will operate until 3.30 am:
- Main routes such as Taman Jasa Utama-Lebuh Ampang, Desa Sri Hartamas-Lin Ho Jalan Lekiu, and Puchong Utama-Pasar Seni Hub.
• Intermediate buses from LRT/MRT stations to surrounding areas such as T460 Stadium Kajang-Bandar Teknologi and T803 Kwasa Sentral-Subang Suria.
• The Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) service is also extended with advance booking through Kummute, Mobi, or Trek Rides applications.
A total of 2,731 frontline personnel, including auxiliary police and operational staff, will be on duty to ensure smooth journey throughout the night.
Users are encouraged to use the Touch 'n Go card for a smooth travel experience and to make sure sufficient balance is available before starting the journey.
Rapid KL also advises city dwellers to use public transport on the day of the celebration to reduce traffic congestion, especially in areas near the venues.
With the planned extension, Rapid KL hopes it will help city dwellers plan their journeys better and pleasantly enjoy their new year celebrations.
