KUALA LUMPUR, March 5– The Ministry of Education (MoE) is committed to ensuring that schools in rural areas, particularly in Sabah and Sarawak, have access to a safe and continuous supply of clean water.

Deputy Minister of Education Wong Kah Woh informed that as many as 302 tube well systems in rural schools are still operating and maintained with an allocation of RM30.6 million in 2024, while RM40 million is allocated for 2025.

"The MoE is working closely with the governments of Sabah and Sarawak and the Public Works Department (JKR) to implement the construction and installation of tube well water supply in rural areas from 2021. To date, the total value of the approved allocation contract is RM94.5 million," he said.

He said this when answering a question from Julau Member of Parliament, Datuk Larry Soon in the Dewan Rakyat, here.

A total of 90 schools are undergoing tube well construction projects with that allocated value, and it is expected to be fully completed this year.

The government is confident that the effort will improve the comfort and safety of students, thus supporting a more conducive learning environment.
