ALOR SETAR, March 2- The Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) has prohibited foreign workers or traders from conducting business at the Ramadan bazaar site.
Alor Setar Mayor Datuk Abdul Ghafar Yahya stated that traders must adhere to the regulations set for their operations from today until March 30.
"The District Health Office will work alongside MBAS to ensure compliance, and we will not make any exceptions. Traders must possess a food handling certificate and proof of a typhoid immunization shot," he said.
He also urged traders not to allow foreigners to run businesses at the Ramadan bazaar under MBAS management. "If this occurs, please inform MBAS or the relevant enforcement authorities," he added.
Speaking to reporters, he emphasized that enforcement actions will take place throughout the operational period, with inspections focusing on compliance with the conditions of the licenses issued by the MBAS Market and Hawker Management Division.
Traders must possess a temporary bazaar permit, cannot change site numbers, and are allowed to operate from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Licensees are also prohibited from transferring ownership.
He mentioned that MBAS is collaborating with the Immigration Department to enforce these regulations.
Penalties and notices will be issued to traders who fail to comply with the license conditions, and traffic control will be focused on areas prone to congestion, such as the Simpang Kuala Bazaar.
This year, MBAS is organizing 15 Ramadan Bazaar locations with a total of 942 sites, and applications are still being accepted for sponsorship sites.
