More than 93,000 residents from 8 states affected by floods

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 December- A total of 93,532 residents from 28,167 families were affected by the floods in eight states as of 9 this morning.

According to the Disaster Info Portal of the Social Welfare Department , that number is less than the 99,823 affected residents recorded last night.

In Kelantan, a total of 57,055 residents from 18,109 families were affected by the floods in the state as of 8.39 this morning.

A total of 158 PPS have been opened in eight districts.

"Pasir Mas recorded the highest number of residents affected by the floods, with 28,950 residents from 9,636 families. A total of 60 PPS have been opened in the district.

"This is followed by Tumpat with 21,082 residents from 6,542 families, where 47 PPS have been opened.

"Other districts that are also affected are Kuala Krai (1,409 residents), Bachok (2,687), Kota Bharu (1,031), Pasir Puteh (804), Machang (822), and Tanah Merah (270)," according to JKM's Disaster Info statement.

Meanwhile, in Terengganu, a total of 25,907 residents from 6,740 families were affected by the flood as of 8.00 this morning.

According to Terengganu's Malaysian Civil Defence Force Operation Disaster, a total of 142 PPS have been activated throughout the state.

Dungun recorded the largest number of affected residents, with 7,928 people from 1,959 families.

This was followed by Kuala Nerus, where a total of 6,781 people from 1,779 families were affected by the floods.

Meanwhile, in Johor, a total of 1,039 people from 298 families were affected by the floods in two districts of the state, as of 4.00 this morning.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee, 19 PPS have been opened in Segamat and Tangkak.

"A total of 902 affected residents have taken shelter in 17 PPS so far. The highest number was recorded at PPS Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Spang Loi, Segamat, with 202 people.

"A PPS was activated in Tangkak at 2.00 this morning, making the number of affected residents in the district a total of 137 people," according to the statement.

In Kedah, a total of 7,407 residents from 2,269 families were affected by the flood, as of 9.00 this morning.

40 PPS have been opened in eight districts of the state.

Meanwhile, Pahang, 1,854 residents were affected by the flood, Perak (640 people), Melaka (161 people), and Perlis (69 people).
