KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 - For the period from January to September 30, 2024, the Public Service Commission (SPA) had received 4,805 applications from PwD candidates, out of the total 1.13 million applications, to fill the vacancies in the public service as of Sept 30 this year.

During the Dewan Rakyat sitting today, The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa informed that, of the total 13,491 of new appointments, 44 or 0.33 percent were PwD and 39 of whom were with physical disabilities, three with hearing disabilities, and one each with intellectual and visual impairments.

"SPA appointments are based on merit and competence of a candidate. The conditions for the appointment of PwDs are the same as the appointment of other candidates.

"...which are based on the service scheme appointment conditions set by the Public Service Department and the requirements of the Head of Service such as the priority of the field of qualification, as well as locality or gender," she added.

She said this in response to questions from Batu Gajah MP, V.Sivakumar.
