KUALA LUMPUR, December 30 - A total of 75 cases of rule violations of the rules for the 2024 Christmas Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMMP) have been recorded.
According to the Enforcement Director General of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Datuk Azman Adam, it involved 74 cases of failure to use the designated pink price tag and one case of not displaying a price tag.
All of these violations involved a total of RM8,600 worth of compound, but no case of sales exceeding the maximum price was detected throughout the duration of this scheme.
"The implementation period of this scheme is for five days and was put into effect two days before the festivity, one day during the festivity and two days after the festivity.
"A total of nine types of goods whose prices are controlled in Peninsular Malaysia and an additional four goods in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan as well as an additional five goods in Sarawak.
"This makes the overall total number of controlled goods at 14 types of goods and their maximum prices have been gazetted for the implementation of 2024 Christmas SHMMP," the statement read.
The scheme, which was in effect from 23 to 27 December, aims to protect consumers from unethical traders, with KPDN conducting 2,748 inspections on retail, wholesale and manufacturing premises nationwide.
"KPDN would also like to express its appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the agencies under it, people in the industry and all traders for their commitment and cooperation in the successful implementation of the 2024 Christmas Festive Season Maximum Price Control Scheme," the statement explained.
