First day of road-ban, 62 vehicles violate regulations

IPOH, March 30- A total of 62 goods vehicles were detected violating the goods vehicle driving ban (road-ban) order on the first day of enforcement.

Director-General of the Road Transport Department (JPJ), Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the order was implemented for four days, namely on March 29 and 30 and April 5 and 6 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

As a result, the department issued 41 summons notices and 21 goods vehicles were detained under Section 59 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"JPJ would like to remind all owners and goods vehicles to comply with the driving ban."

If there are vehicles that fail to comply with the rules 21, Goods Vehicle Driving Prohibition Rules 2025 will be taken action under Section 59 of the Road Transport Act 1987 which is a compound of RM300 or a fine in court not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment or not exceeding six months if convicted," he said.

He said this while monitoring and inspecting buses at the Aman Jaya Terminal here.

During the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Special Ops 2025 implemented since March 24, a total of 122,655 vehicles were inspected while action was taken on 15,217 vehicles.

During the same period, a total of 32,031 notices were issued with 236 vehicles seized.

The public is advised to always obey the road rules and ensure that safety aspects are a priority when driving during the festive season.

In other development, following a fatal accident involving four vehicles including a commercial trailer vehicle at Kilometer 58.1 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) on March 27, Aedy Fadly Ramli informed that his party has implemented a Safety Inspection and Audit Report (JISA) against the commercial vehicle company involved.

An investigation paper has also been opened under the regulations of Act 715.

Investigation was conducted for three offences, namely Section 58(1)(a), Section 58(1)(b) and Section 57(1) of the Land Public Transport Act (APAD) 2010.

Convicted offenders can be fined between RM1,000 to RM500,000 or imprisoned for a period not exceeding two years or both.

"After this investigation paper is completed, the JPJ will hand it over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further decisions and instructions. So we will hand it over first so that we know the direction of this IP process," he said.

When asked about the use of clone tires by the trailer during the accident, he said the matter was still under investigation.

His party is awaiting a report from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action.

In the accident on March 27, five people, including three from a family, died while eight others were injured.

Initial investigations found that the incident occurred when the lorry driver, a 35-year-old local man, was travelling from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur when he lost control due to a burst front tyre.

The trailer driver had six previous convictions, four of which had been resolved.
