Cooking Oil Smuggling busted in Pengkalan Hulu

Authorities seized 80 packets of one kilogram cooking oil and a vehicle for further investigation

PENGKALAN HULU, October 24th - A foreigner's attempt to smuggle a one kilogramme packet of cooking oil was thwarted when he was apprehended by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) at the Bukit Berapit ICQS Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security Complex in Pengkalan Hulu.

State KPDN Director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail reported that the two 47-year-old suspects were believed to be attempting to export controlled goods to Thailand.

The incident unfolded around 10 a.m. when enforcement officers from the Gerik Branch KPDN received a handover from the General Operations Team (PGA) of the 18th Pengkalan Hulu Battalion regarding an individual suspected of trying to illegally transport one kilogram packets of cooking oil.

Upon initial inspection, it was determined that the two men lacked the necessary permissions to export the controlled items.

Subsequently, authorities seized 80 packets of one kilogram cooking oil and a vehicle for further investigation, with an estimated total seizure value of RM40,300.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supply Act 1961 and the Control of Supply Regulations 1974.

Penalties for violations can include fines of up to RM1 million or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, for individuals. Organizations or corporations may face fines of up to RM2 million.
