TANJONG MALIM, January 25- Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) launched the Budi Bitara Card yesterday, a special initiative in conjunction with the UPSI 2024 'Majlis Jasamu Dikenang'.

UPSI Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff said it was as a token of appreciation to university retirees for their contributions and dedication throughout their service.

The launch of the card makes UPSI the first Higher Education Institution (IPT) to take a proactive step in appreciating the services of retirees who have contributed to the development of the institution.

"This card is a symbol of respect and a sign of our appreciation for the high commitment of retirees who have served towards the university's excellence.

"They are the backbone of UPSI's success and we hope that the facilities provided will benefit them," he said in a statement.

The card offers various exclusive facilities including access to library services, facility rental facilities at UPSI and Universiti Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (UHSB) at staff rates as well as access to facilities at both UPSI campuses such as swimming pools, bowling alleys, gymnasiums, and various other facilities.

Additionally, the initiative is also the university's commitment to continue to build close relationships with retirees even though they are no longer actively working.

"Retirees are part of the UPSI family, and we want to ensure that they always feel valued and privileged in enjoying the facilities that the university offers," he said.

Additionally, the Budi Bitara Card is not just a physical facility but also a symbolic representation of the university's respect for the experience and expertise of retirees.

"We hope that the Budi Bitara Card will inspire staff who are still serving to continue to give their best to the university. The commitment and integrity shown by retirees should be emulated by the new generation," he said.

Meanwhile, UPSI Registrar, Helmi Zaifura Abdul Rahman said that the university had also prepared various other initiatives to appreciate the services of retirees.

Among the initiatives created were contributions to retirees such as donation to the hospital of RM100, a contribution due to death of RM300, as well as for critical illness of RM1,000.

"The second initiative is the preparation of the Wall of Fame which is currently in the process of preparing the specifications and final design draft which is expected to be completed in March this year.

"This Wall of Fame will display the names of retirees carved on wood which will remain on display around the lobby of Level 1 of the Chancellery building," he said.

The third initiative is a special programme for prospective retirees, as early as two years before retirement to expose and prepare them towards their days of retirement.

"Various initiatives have been created by UPSI to reflect our efforts to maintain good relations with former employees, while supporting their needs during life after retirement," he added.

The 2024 'Majlis Jasamu Dikenang' was attended by more than 100 retirees and their family members.

The ceremony was also graced with artistic performances and the presentation of awards and souvenirs to UPSI retirees.
