SUNGAI PETANI, January 25– A recycling factory in the Kedah State Development Corporation (PKNK) area, Taman Ria Jaya, caught fire early this morning, resulting in a 80 percent damage to the building's structure.
Senior Operations Commander, Kedah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Senior Fire Superintendent II, Abdul Fataf Amdan said the fire involved a permanent building measuring 70 x 140 square feet.
"The Kedah Operations Center received an emergency call at 2.35 am through the MERS999 system. Fire engines and crew from Amanjaya Sungai Petani Fire and Rescue Station, Tikam Batu, as well as the nearby Voluntary Fire Brigade were deployed to the scene," he said in a statement.
The extinguishing operation involved the use of four streams measuring 400 feet and eight water jets from the tank.
No casualties were reported in the incident and the fire was completely brought under control at 5.50 am.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
