LONDON, Jan 16- The United Kingdom's participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) provides an opportunity to enhance trade relations between Malaysia and the UK.

As this year's ASEAN Chair, Malaysia wants to promote regional economic integration, using the success of companies like the YTL Group as a prime example of ASEAN-UK cooperation.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysian business investments in the UK reflect a commitment to fostering partnerships that bring about shared development, thus driving economic growth.

"We have successfully joined the CPTPP, it takes into account the serious political responsibilities between the UK and Malaysia in providing a focus for economic development between the two countries to promote trade and investment," he said.

He said this when delivering the keynote address at the launch of the Brabazon New Town Project in Bristol.

The project is a new sustainable city project developed by the YTL Group in the UK with an investment value of 4 billion pounds for a period of five years.

Also present at the launch was Minister for Investment at the UK Department for Business and Trade, Baroness Poppy Gustafsson, and the UK Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds.
