JOHOR BAHRU, July 31 - The Wheelie Bin Exchange Campaign, initiated by SMW Environment since last June is an approach to strengthen the efforts towards environmental sustainability in Johor.
South Johor Service Area Manager 1, SMW Environment, Mohd Nur Izham Ahmad said that the initiative to replace the broken wheelie bins was done to ensure a more efficient waste management.
However, the replacement of the wheelie bins was done in stages across all residential areas involving 15 local governments in Johor.
Bins that have exceeded 10-year lifespan will be replaced with a new one, equipped with serial numbers to meet the highest standard in keeping the environment clean.
“Each bin is considered an asset of the government hence, if it is broken, it will be replaced for free. Homeowners are required to register their bins on SWM Environment’s e-bin portal to facilitate the processing of applications and bin replacements,” he told the reporters here.
In order to realise this matter, however, cooperation from homeowners is needed by making sure that the wheelie bins are placed outside their premises for easy replacement.
The company also hopes that the communities, particularly in Johor, will utilise the supplied wheeled bins by practicing the Separation At Source routine, according to the designated schedule.
