Education on cyberbullying can save lives

ACP Julina Sallehudin

PUTRAJAYA, 31 July- Education on cyberbullying is seen as an initiative in overcoming the symptoms that have spread within communities, besides having a platform to handle the situation.

Head of Corporate Communications of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Julina Sallehudin said the initiative was able to save victims apart from the support of parents, teachers and the community for the early prevention of cyberbullying cases.

At the same time, PDRM also called on the communities to help identify and prevent the issue.

"Education on digital ethics also needs to be applied from a young age. Victims can get emotional support from family and friends so that they are not alone.

"...if there are friends or people willing to provide access to counselors as well as psychological support services, this is an important step," She told reporters after being a special guest for Selamat Pagi Malaysia segment at the Warrior's Day Parade Ceremony here.

She also advised victims of bullying to immediately report to the authorities in order to prevent unwanted incidents from happening and to take appropriate action.

In the meantime, integration of the history education curriculum in an interactive manner, through research-based projects should be a key aspect to maintain the spirit of patriotism among the younger generation.

"Among the approaches we can do is integration in the education curriculum such as teaching history interactively through research-based projects.

"...activities like this allow students to learn about the sacrifices of officers and soldiers in defending he sovereignty of the country and contributing to the peace we have today," she said.
