KUALA LUMPUR, August 8 - The Ministry of Communications in collaboration with Meta Platforms, Inc. and CelcomDigi launched a pilot program, Creators IRL (In Real Life) aimed to address online security and fraud issues.
At the launch event, more than 30 influential content creators in Malaysia together with key industry stakeholders were brought together, marking the start of a concerted effort to equip content creators with the knowledge, tools and experiences to tackle online threats and promote digital security.
According to the programme officer, Onsya Boak in a statement, the launch of the program provides a glimpse of the fellow programme for content creators, featuring a dynamic panel discussion with experienced experts from Meta, CelcomDigi, and the Malaysian Content Forum for Communication and Multimedia (Content Forum).
"The panel covered critical issues plaguing the digital world such as fraud and child safety online, and provided valuable insights and strategies to protect consumers online.
"Following that, attendees took part in a hands-on content creation workshop, run by REV Media, which offered practical guidance in tackling serious online security issues through creatively creating impactful content to engage audiences", according to the statement.
Boak also explained that Creators IRL is a three-month transformative programme for 10 selected content creators. Content creators have the opportunity to delve into the latest content creation techniques, emphasising online behaviour and safety strategies from leading industry experts.
"They will gain practical insight through visits to key organisations and institutions involved in the digital sphere, networking with government officials, corporate leaders, and fellow content creators to build invaluable relationships and partnerships", explained Boak.
He added that the IRL Creators Programme also provides support grants amounting to RM80,000 for selected content creators to produce high-impact content that is able to drive change on online safety issues.
