BAU, 23 Jan- The construction of a new cable suspension bridge in Kampung Tringgus Bong, Bau had to be accelerated.

Member of the Serembu State Legislative Assembly, Miro Simuh said this was after the existing suspension bridge had collapsed yesterday following a storm surge.

Therefore, he hopes that the construction can start as early as the end of February.

He explained that the construction cost of RM1 million from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development has been allocated for the construction of the suspension bridge.

Miro told this to RTM in Seniawan, Bau today.

The 25-meter-long bridge, which is over 20 years old, collapsed after being hit by a strong current on Tuesday night following heavy rain for more than three hours.

The collapse of the bridge has affected the accessibility of more than a hundred residents in the village involved.

For the time being, the residents of the village have to use an alternate road which takes 25 minutes through the school road.
