KUALA NERUS, Jan 15- The Terengganu government has been urged to be more aggressive in dealing with the severe erosion problem that is occurring on the beaches around Kuala Nerus.
This follows the worsening coastal erosion that happened especially at Pantai Mengabang Telipot, Pangkalan Maras and Batu Rakit, which needs to be addressed immediately to avoid more property losses.
Kuala Nerus UMNO Division Chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, who is also the former Menteri Besar of Terengganu, said the state government needs to take proactive steps, including urging the federal government to channel immediate allocations to deal with the problem in the short and long term.
If not addressed immediately, it will cause destruction to residents' homes and infrastructure.
"It is most appropriate for the Menteri Besar and the state government to apply for allocations from the Prime Minister so that it can be channeled immediately.
"I think this is the best opportunity to use our "Wang Ehsan".
"The "wang ehsan" is currently managed by the central government.
"I don't think there is an issue with using this "wang ehsan", he said when met after inspecting the erosion area in Mengabang Telipot, here.
Elaborating further, Ahmad Razif said the state government is able to view the success of the wave breaker project that has been carried out at Seberang Takir Beach and the construction of the Lagoon at Tok Jembal Beach in Kuala Nerus.
