KUALA LUMPUR, February 9- The government is offering tax relief of up to RM1,000 for the purchase of equipment and activities for 103 designated sports, said Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh.
The initiative is one of the reforms of the Youth and Sports Ministry together with the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
According to Hannah, it is to encourage the people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The tax relief can be used for the purchase of sports equipment, participation in tournaments, gym memberships and sports training, including for taxpayers, spouses, children and senior citizens.
"Sports training means that taxpayers can use it to learn new sports and the monthly fee they pay for coaches, they can collect receipts for themselves, their spouses and children.
"In 2025, we have extended it to taxpayers' parents, meaning grandparents can also learn new sports," she said after attending the Segambut Parliamentary Chinese New Year Celebration 2025 here.
