KANGAR, 23 November - The Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) plays a very important role in ensuring the safety, well-being and harmony of a community.

Perlis Police Chief, Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said it includes helping the security forces, especially the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), to be effective in its efforts to reduce crime rates.

"This shows that the community’s involvement plays a very important role in taking care of each other's safety and not just completely handing such task to the police," said Muhammad in his speech in conjunction with the launch of the state-level Community Security and Resilience Strengthening Programme: ‘One Family, One SRS Member’ Campaign in Kuala Perlis, last night.

The text of his speech was read out by his deputy SAC Baderulhisham Baharudin who also represented him in inaugurating the programme. Perlis Unity Department director Hanita Ahmad was also present.

Muhammad called on all local residents to participate in the SRS and he is confident that the safety and well-being of local areas will be more secured with the increase in the scheme’s membership.

"Each patrol assignment can be arranged more smoothly and efficiently, as well as strengthen relationships by getting to know each other," he said.

Organised by the Perlis Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN), the programme also aims to strengthen the relationship between local residents and security agencies.
