KULIM, 23 November – A private ambulance overturned after a collision with a car at Jalan Lebuh Hi-Tech, near the three-way traffic light intersection of Hospital Kulim, last night.
The ambulance was not carrying any patients at the time of the accident, and only the driver and a medical assistant were onboard. Both sustained injuries.
Kulim District Police Chief Superintendent Zulkifli Azizan, in a statement, said that initial investigations revealed the accident occurred around 8.20 pm.
The ambulance, driven by a 33-year-old man, was on duty traveling from a private hospital in Bandar Perda, Penang, to Hospital Kulim.
"Upon reaching the traffic light at the three-way intersection near Hospital Kulim, the ambulance turned right with its siren sounding and beacon lights flashing, despite the traffic light being red," said Zulkifli.
"However, a car driven by a 19-year-old man suddenly approached from the opposite direction and struck the rear left side of the ambulance," he added.
The case is being investigated under Rule 17 LN 166/59. Police have recorded the ambulance driver’s statement regarding the incident.
