Transport Minister, Anthony Loke

PUTRAJAYA, August 2 - The special programme for the transition of the Malaysian Driving License (LMM) for class B1 or B2 motorcycles to class B will start on 1st October.

The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke informed that the programme allows class B1 and B2 license holders to switch to a class B motor license, by following the set conditions.

Among them, the applicant has actively held a B1 or B2 class license for a continuous period of at least 10 years.

"This condition is to ensure the level of competence and experience of driving a motorcycle for any individual before switching to a high-powered motorcycle.

"We decided not to limit the age limit, but look at the experience period of at least 10 years of driving a motorcycle.

"Attend and pass the transition and adaptation programme to 500cc and above motorcycle vehicles at a driving institute involving a practical riding programme, safe driving information and information on driving/operating high-powered motorcycles for a period of 2 hours and verification of the level of ability to operate large-powered motorcycles by a qualified training officer (QTO) at a driving institute", he said.

He informed that this special transitional programme does not have an end period and will continue until a period to be determined and notified later.

For the purpose of undergoing the special transition programme, a service charge of RM160 will be charged to the candidate to cover the operating costs involved in the driving institute.

Loke said this at a press conference after the Ministry of Transport's Monthly Assembly and Launch of Independence Month 2024 in Putrajaya.
