KUCHING, 29 January - The flood situation in Sarawak is becoming more worrying as the number of affected residents continues to increase in six areas of the state.
The Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee said that as of 4.00 this afternoon, a total of 1,823 people from 522 families were transferred to 34 temporary evacuation centers (PPS).
"The Serian Division recorded the highest number of evacuees, with 830 people from 276 families taking shelter in 10 PPS, while five other PPS that were also activated are still in the process of updating the data of the evacuated residents," according to the Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee.
Meanwhile, various videos and photos related to the extraordinary flood situation in Bintulu were also shared by virtual citizens on social media today.
In the Bintulu Division, five PPS have been activated so far. However, the data only involved 143 people from 46 households in two PPS. The data for three PPS is in the process of being updated.
