SHAH ALAM, Dec 30- The Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS) successfully recorded a total of 28.8 hectares of wakaf properties with a value of RM36.2 million, last year.
Chief Executive Officer of the Selangor Wakaf Corporation (PWS), Anuar Hamzah Tohar said that of the total, the Sabak Bernam district was the largest contributor to wakaf properties in the state with a total of 14.2 hectares.
"This shows that the community has become more aware of wakaf and they understood that the land can be used for benefits, whether it is rented out or developed for agriculture and so on.
"We also have several wakaf land projects, an example would be a pineapple farm project, Saudagar Nanas, managed by an individual at Sungai Merab," he said.
He said this when met at a press conference during the Meet And Greet Session with the Chief Executive Officer of the Selangor Wakaf Corporation here.
Meanwhile, PWS managed to collect RM60 million compared to the target of collecting RM112 million in wakaf funds this year.
Of that amount, RM2.4 million in fisabilillah wakaf was distributed to 69 institutions which applications had been approved.
