PM reviews cabinet performance, emphasizes room for improvement

Anwar Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21- The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, expressed his satisfaction with the overall performance of the Cabinet Ministers during the two years of the Madani Government's administration.

He acknowledged that while the government's performance has been commendable, there are still certain areas that require improvement to ensure that government services provide greater benefits to the people.

Throughout this period, he observed that some ministers excelled with outstanding performance, while others only demonstrated average results. He indicated that there is still room for improvement among the ministers.

Despite this, Anwar highlighted his satisfaction with the efforts to combat corruption and abuse of power. He noted that, although issues of corruption have been raised, he has not allowed the continuation of old practices such as direct negotiations and commission theft.

Anwar made these remarks during a press conference where he addressed various questions related to the government and current issues, alongside both local and international journalists.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, was also present at the meeting.

As the Minister of Finance, Anwar emphasized that his government prioritizes good governance. He pointed out that while people may not want to hear about governance issues, he considers them to be the most significant problems, as they lead to leaks, corruption, and the loss of billions in funds that should not have been paid.

Additionally, in a Facebook post, Anwar described the media as a crucial player in providing criticism, feedback, opinions, commentary, and insights that celebrate the spirit of meaningful democracy in the country.

He stated that the session was important for providing explanations and information, particularly regarding the performance of the cabinet, efforts to eradicate extreme poverty, foreign policy, and the economy amid dynamic global changes, regional issues, and the rise of ASEAN.
