IPOH, Dec 13- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today handed over a donation to 19 heads of households (KIR) who were affected by the floods in Kampung Cheh and the area around Tanjung Rambutan here.
The donation was presented by Hulu Kinta State Assembly Member Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad.
Arafat, when met by reporters, said that in addition to financial assistance, his party will take long-term measures to overcome the issue of floods that often hit the villages in question.
"Our DUN office issued its own allocation to bring a backhoe and build a temporary water channel to drain water to the river."
"A flood like this has not happened for several years, so we need to discuss with the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to enlarge the river in this area," he explained.
Earlier on December 1, four villages were affected by floods, with water up to 0.5 meters high. The villages involved include Kampung Cheh, Kampung North Ward, Kampung Masjid and Kampung Bata.
