Batu Puteh RCI not act of revenge against Tun M

Anwar Ibrahim/RTM

PUTRAJAYA, December 13- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the handling of matters related to the sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Middle Rocks and South Ledge is not aimed at taking revenge against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said the narrative of revenge was inappropriate because the Special Task Force established to revise the law related to the issue was formed during the administration of the Ninth Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"This is a matter of territory, and how can a region or area be handed over just like that. This principle is important, but I do not propose any action (to Mahathir). Just leave it to the Attorney General's Department to make the best decision," he said.

He told reporters this after Friday prayers at Surau Darul Ulum, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Putrajaya, Presint 11, here today.

Earlier, the Prime Minister spent almost 20 minutes at Medan Selera Precinct 11 here before inaugurating Imam Nawawi's 40th Hadis Page at the surau.
