KUALA LUMPUR, March 10- A multi-tier levy mechanism will be implemented this year to reduce dependency on foreign workers.

However, according to Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, before it is carried out, discussions and engagement sessions will be held with industry stakeholders and relevant government regulatory agencies.

This will positively impact the development of the labor market sector, industry, and the economy as a whole.

"Because the portfolios of the existing industries are related to the policies of the ministries and departments in the government.

"Therefore, we will certainly hold discussions and engagement sessions with all involved stakeholders. I seek support from all parties, including the industry.

"This is not only to organize our labor market sector but also to enhance competitiveness in the industry and the national economy," he said in response to a question from Senator Tan Sri Low Kian Chuan in the Dewan Negara here.
