KUALA LUMPUR, March 10- The country's taxation system will continue to be strengthened with transparency and fairness to ensure that people from all walks of life contribute fairly to national development.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that taxes are for the people and not for the purpose of building personal wealth.

"What are taxes for? For the people. Not for spendthrift leadership and building palaces for their personal use. From whom should we collect taxes from? From those who can afford it, those who have high incomes.

"Abdul Rahman bin Khaldun in the Muqaddimah said that if taxes are abusive, people will run away. Either by cheating or by fleeing," he said after the Launch of the MyInvois e-Pos System and the Use of MyDigital ID for MyTax/MySTR.

The Prime Minister is confident with the performance of the Inland Revenue Board (HASiL), while praising the agency's achievements as well as implementation of its new system.

In 2024, direct tax collection amounted to RM184.805 billion, an increase of RM1.465 billion from RM183.34 billion in 2023.
