MOT examines speed control systems

Datuk Hasbi Habibollah

SELAYANG, Jan 14- The Ministry of Transport (MOT) is examining the use of speed limit control systems, 'trajectory control,' to ensure drivers comply with speed limits on the roads.

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah stated that the system functions by measuring the average driving speed by taking data from two points and is also capable of significantly reducing accidents.

"The Ministry is drafting the average speed limit currently being studied by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and others.

"This includes the placement of camera points A and B for the average speed limit, which is still being worked on.

Several other countries also implement this method at all locations as it serves as a measure in efforts to reduce the number of accidents on the roads," he said.

He made these remarks after launching the 2025 road safety campaign in Selayang today.

With the theme 'Kongsi Jalan Raya, Tunggang Berhemah,' the campaign also offers free motorcycle inspections, the exchange of 400 new helmets for motorcyclists, and the distribution of children's helmets.

Meanwhile, according to PDRM statistics, in November last year, the trend of road accidents showed an increase with 5,939 fatalities, of which 4,014 involved motorcycle riders and passengers.
