High tide phenomenon is not an entertainment

KUALA NERUS, 14 January - The public is once again reminded not to make the phenomenon of high tides and coastal erosion areas as a place to take photos.

A survey around the beach in Seberang Takir led to the discovery of some individuals who still take the opportunity to witness the phenomenon up close and make it into their social media content.

Kuala Nerus Fire and Rescue Station Chief Azmi Omar said there is a strong concern that the strong waves of more than 2.8 meters high and strong winds will threaten the safety of visitors.

"There are individuals who make content for social media, by doing live broadcasts. Our role is to approach this group of people and advise them steer clear of the beach because it is dangerous.

"As we can see, the coastal embankment's condition has also been eroded due to the big waves and this situation is dangerous. Fortunately, one route along Seberang Takir is closed due to safety concerns.

"I advise visitors and the public to be careful when passing through the Seberang Takir beach. This situation may continue until January 15th," he told reporters here.

Earlier, he visited several high tide locations which are often the focus of visitors during the period of big waves.

He added that control and monitoring of the coastlines, which are often the locations of public interest, have been intensified.

For the record, the high tide phenomenon during this period has caused the beach erosion in Batu Rakit to worsen.
