Housewife eligible for trial in deaths of three UiTM students

DUNGUN, Jan 14- A housewife reported to be the cause of an accident that resulted in the deaths of three students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun Campus is eligible to stand trial and provide a confession.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Azhani Azman stated this while managing the case concerning the psychiatric report of Norizan Ismail, 50 years old.

Magistrate Nur Amira Fatihah Osman set February 20 for the continuation of the prosecution before the case is transferred to the High Court.

Previously, the accused was charged with causing the deaths of Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25; Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20; and Khairil Anuar Jamaluddin, 20.

The accused was charged with the offense on October 9 last year in front of the UiTM Dungun campus at 7:35 PM.

The charge was made under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, should also be subjected to caning of not less than 12 strokes.

The prosecution is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Azhani Azman, while the accused is represented by lawyer Norhabibah Norulalzahar.

In October last year, the court ordered the accused to undergo a mental examination at Permai Hospital, Johor Bahru, Johor.
