PUTRAJAYA, April 5– The MADANI Aidilfitri celebration with the Prime Minister scheduled to take place tomorrow (April 6) in Selangor has been cancelled.
The Prime Minister's Office announced in a statement today that the decision was made as a mark of respect for the victims of the recent gas pipeline explosion and fire incident in Putra Heights, Selangor.
“The Prime Minister has also directed that all food preparations that have been made be distributed to temporary evacuation centers, schools, orphanages, and homes for the elderly,” the statement said today.
Meanwhile, Selangor Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, stated that the decision was made after receiving the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the agreement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“This decision was taken to honor the victims and families affected by this incident,” he said in a Facebook post today.
He also expressed appreciation to the entire organizing team for their hard work in preparation for the event and apologized to everyone for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
“I greatly appreciate the understanding and concern of all parties who prioritize the interests and well-being of the people.
“May Allah SWT bless all our efforts in solidarity to help the victims,” he said.
