PUTRAJAYA, 7 Januari- The implementation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is a unique collaboration at the regional level.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this success was not just at the national level, but also had an impact at the global level.

"Singapore remains a major bilateral investor and Malaysia's main trading partner. We aim to strengthen this relationship especially through the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, which I consider to be an extraordinary step on a regional and international level.

"I also hope to work closely with Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to ensure the success of this initiative, not only for Johor and Malaysia, but also Singapore and the region as a whole,"

He said this at a media conference with his colleagues in conjunction with the 11th Malaysia Singapore Leaders Retreat.

The Prime Minister also said their discussion involved the issue of cooperation on maritime safety and water resources.

He said that Malaysia had reopened water-related negotiations with Singapore, including on parameters that were currently being studied.

He added that a technical team would determine the appropriate parameters in these discussions.

"The technical team will discuss the parameters.

"We are also looking at proposals, especially by Sarawak regarding energy exports using the RDC Cable via the Peninsula to Singapore," he said.

Previously, the two leaders witnessed the exchange of several memorandums of understanding involving the fields of education, energy, economics and JS-SEZ which were expected to provide great benefits to both countries.
