JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 12- The Johor Department of Environment (DOE) arrested the manager and supervisor of an oleochemical-based factory in Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru on Wednesday to assist in investigations into the pollution case in Sungai Buloh, on the same day.
Johor DOE, Dr. Mohd Famey Yusoff said the river pollution in Pasir Gudang was detected after they received a complaint from the public.
Initial investigations found that the effluent treatment system at the premises failed to function, causing the release of brown coloured effluent.
Samples of the effluent were sent to the Department of Chemistry in Petaling Jaya for analysis.
Following this, Johor DOE has issued the equipment seizure notice on the premises to stop the pollution.
Action was taken under Section 37 C of the Environmental Quality Act 1974 and the case is being investigated under the Environmental Quality (Industrial Effluent) Regulations 2009.
