ALOR GAJAH, August 22 - A total of 59 preservation and conservation of heritage buildings has been completed by the Ministry of Public Works throughout this year.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said it involved the preservation and conservation of historic buildings at the federal and state levels as well as advisory services.

Therefore, he hopes that it can help boost the promotion of those places, especially in Melaka and Penang, and is able to attract tourists from within and outside the country.

"The latest one that we will hand over is the Penang High Court on August 27 next week; the building has been completely restored, demonstrating the seriousness of all parties who are committed to the preservation and conservation of heritage buildings," he said.

Among the heritage buildings involved are Istana Budaya, the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan dan Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Kuala Lumpur.

He said this to reporters after officiating the Platform for Exploration: Technical and Design (PENTAS) 2024 programme at the JKR’s Center of Excellence in Engineering & Technology (CREaTE) hall here today. This event was also attended by the Public Works director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail.

Meanwhile, regarding PENTAS, Nanta said it was proof of the ministry's commitment to initiatives to balance national development through efforts of preserving national culture and heritage.

“Through PENTAS, it is hoped that a more integrated and comprehensive strategy will be developed in ensuring projects involving heritage are well-executed, focused, and impactful, providing direct benefits to the people and the country’s economy," he said.

PENTAS will last three days starting today, involving 400 participants including technical experts in the construction sector to share their experiences on asset management, heritage conservation and development planning involving heritage and cultural elements.
