PUTRAJAYA, Jan 10- The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) through the Social Welfare Department (JKM) continues to be committed to ensuring that the child care and early childhood system is at its best, safe and quality level.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the plaque installation in Taman Asuhan Kanak-Kanak (Taska) is one of the best initiatives to make it easier for parents to choose daycare centers, thereby helping the government to deal with the issue of child abuse and neglect.

"So, registered nurseries will only operate after fulfilling the set conditions. This is for the safety and well-being of children during their stay at the nursery.

This step can further reduce the risk of unwanted incidents," said Datuk Seri Nancy when speaking at the Launch of the nursery registration plaque at Taska Seri Kandi, Audit Department, here.

All registered nurseries are required to display the plaque, in a place that is easily visible from outside their respective premises.

So far, a total of 3,198 registered nurseries will be involved in this plaque installation initiative.

In the meantime, KPWKM will re-examine the registration applications of two nurseries in Selangor and Sarawak which were involved in incidents of infant death and injuries.

Datuk Seri Nancy asserted that she would not hastily approve the nurseries' application, especially when the matter is still under police investigation.

Last Friday, a case was reported regarding the death of a four-month-old baby at a nursery in Saujana Putra, Selangor.

While in Sarawak, an eight-month-old baby was reported to have suffered injuries and bruises, believed to be the result of being bitten by another child, last Tuesday.

It is understood that the two nurseries, which are not yet registered, are currently in the application process to obtain their registration approval.

Datuk Seri Nancy further elaborated that a total of 94 enforcement actions had been taken by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the Child Development Department (JPKK) throughout the past year.
