KEPALA BATAS, February 26– Parents and teachers are urged to raise awareness about the risks of children consuming dangerous foods, such as snacks and gummy candies, to prevent incidents like choking.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri emphasized that this measure is crucial to prevent such incidents from happening again and to educate the community, especially parents and educators.
"Incidents like this serve as a reminder to us all. Parents and teachers must consistently communicate with children about the dangers of certain foods that could pose a safety risk," she said.
She made these comments after officiating the Launching Ceremony of the Fertility Treatment Assistance and Fertility Advocacy (BuAI) Programme at the Penang LPPKN Family Centre today.
On February 20, a 10-year-old child tragically died from choking on gummy candies, which were purchased from a stall near the school.
In light of this, she stressed that parents need to be more vigilant in monitoring their children's diets, with teachers also playing a key role in ensuring the safety of students at school.
