KANGAR, Jan 23- The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) of Perlis received a total of 1,051 emergency calls from January to December 31, 2024, across the state.
Of these, 773 were fire-related cases, 273 were rescue operations, and four were humanitarian service calls.
Deputy Director of the State Fire and Rescue Department, Senior Fire Superintendent II Na Khoom Kiang, noted that the number of emergency cases in 2024 saw an increase compared to the 880 cases recorded in 2023.
In terms of financial impact, the total loss for 2024 amounted to RM3.958 million, while RM13.212 million was saved through rescue efforts. These figures represent an increase from the RM2.690 million in losses and RM6.698 million saved in 2023.
“The Perlis State Fire and Rescue Department has 251 personnel and officers, with five fire stations equipped with five fire engines, two Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) units, and three Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM) units stationed at Kangar for patrols,” he said.
He shared this information during the launch of the Chinese New Year Celebration Fire Safety Campaign and the announcement of Ops Raya by the Perlis State Fire and Rescue Department in Kangar.
