DAVOS, January 23- The government is examining the best mechanism for the provision of free tolls during the festive seasons to the B40 and M40 groups.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said studies have been done so that the affected people were given due consideration regarding the issue.
He said that toll subsidies cannot continue to be given to the financially well-off, just like the case with electricity and oil subsidies.
"Some have raised the issue as to why free tolls are given to all, luxury cars such as Rolls-Royce, Mercedes, Maserati, all get it too.
"Perhaps we should examine this so that the people affected are given other considerations. This is currently being worked out," he said during a press conference here.
Anwar is in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 Annual Summit.
The Works Ministry had previously given out a statement, based on the principle of government policy not to continue providing subsidies to everyone.
Earlier, its Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced that starting this year, his ministry does not plan to provide free tolls ahead of a festive season.
