More than RM99 million allocated for the Sungai Skudai improvement project

Pulai Member of Parliament, Suhaizan Kaiat

JOHOR BAHRU, 22 January – The Federal Government approved an allocation of RM99.8 million in December last year for the Skudai River improvement project in the area.

Pulai Member of Parliament, Suhaizan Kaiat, announced that the project will begin next year and will involve the removal of silt and the deepening of the river.

Currently in the research phase, the project is expected to benefit local fishermen.

"At present, the Skudai River is shallow and narrow due to extensive development, with silt accumulation causing it to settle and shrink," said Suhaizan. "The project will remove the existing gillnets, which will indirectly assist the Marine Police in the area and restore the jetty, enabling normal operations to resume."

Suhaizan made these remarks after officiating the Assistance Council for Zone Fishermen A Johor at Dewan Hassan Abdullah, Kampung Pasir.

Additionally, 107 fishermen received aid in the form of safety lights and nets during the event.
