All parties play a crucial role in preventing climate change

Associate Professor Dr. Emilia Abd Malek

KUALA LUMPUR, August 12 - All parties need to play their respective roles in identifying and preventing climate change, which is affecting the world and also impacting our country.

This recommendation is to ensure that ecosystem changes can be controlled to prevent flash floods, extreme heat and extinction of animals.

The Head of the Chemistry Department, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Associate Professor Dr. Emilia Abd Malek, said she does not dismiss the possibility that daily activities also contribute to global climate warming.

Among them are environmental exploitation, air pollution and water pollution.

“I feel that all of this is happening all over the world, it’s just that we have always been hot, so we don’t feel the change very much.

“But for me, this year’s temperature is hotter, at the same time heavy rain falls and can cause floods, so I think we cannot avoid climate change,” she said to the reporter after being a guest on a RTM programme here.

Regarding the International Climate Change Action Programme that will be held in Pulau Tioman, she said that it is seen as giving awareness and actions that can bring about sudden changes.

This includes intensifying beach and marine life cleanup activities and developing the module in schools.
