Welfare of the Palestinian people, government discusses sending them home

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil

PUTRAJAYA, 8 January – The Malaysian government is committed to ensuring the welfare of Palestinians in the country, particularly those requiring medical treatment.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that efforts to facilitate their return to their home country for medical purposes are ongoing.

“The Cabinet was briefed today on the ongoing discussions between the Ministry of Interior (KDN) and the Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) regarding coordination with the Egyptian government,” he said. “While efforts to repatriate the Palestinians continue, all necessary medical services will still be provided.”

Fahmi also addressed the recent disturbance at Wisma Transit Kuala Lumpur (WTKL) involving Palestinians on Saturday, stating that the matter would be discussed during the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (today), where further actions to be taken will be determined.

In another development, Fahmi commented on META’s decision to replace its fact-checking service with community notes on its platform.

“The community notes concept is a crowdsourced approach. While there are both advantages and disadvantages to this, we have not yet received official details from META,” he said. “However, we plan to reach out to them for more information. I don’t foresee any significant impact on the Malaysian market, as it is primarily focused on the United States.”

Fahmi assured that the government would continue to monitor the situation to safeguard the interests of consumers in Malaysia.
