TANJUNG MALIM, 29 November - Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) has come forward to provide assistance to flood-affected residents in Kelantan and Perak, becoming one of the first Higher Education Institutions (IPTs) to do so for this flood season.
UPSI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff called upon the UPSI ResQ Team to be deployed to Tumpat, Kelantan to participate in the rescue mission.
"Their courage to act and assist proves that human values are crucial in every effort to save lives," he said.
The mission was led by the Deputy Director of the University Community Transformation Centre (UCTC), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aqil Aryan Wong along with three volunteers.
They used machinery consisting of a boat, lorry and four-wheel drive vehicle.
Apart from the rescue mission, the ResQ team also donated clothes to residents in need through the Preloved Shoppe team under the UPSI Counselling Centre.
In the Batang Padang district, Perak, the UPSI Counselling Centre also reached out to residents by providing basic psychological assistance and clothing at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Klah Baru, Sungkai.
UPSI Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Prof. Dr. Norkhalid Salimin said the mission was not only aimed at helping the residents but also emphasised the commitment of the UPSI ResQ Team in providing psychosocial support to those affected.
"This is the best example of how unity and commitment can have a big impact in a challenging situation," he said.
