The Urban Renewal Bill will be tabled in Parliament next year

Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming

PUTRAJAYA, 2 August - The Urban Renewal Bill (RUU) is expected to be tabled in Parliament early next year.

The Minister of Housing and Local Government, Nga Kor Ming, said the bill would give more autonomy to efforts to redevelop old buildings, especially those that are unsafe to live in.

At the same time, it improves the Strata Management Act 2013.

"The reason we need to renew this act is because many buildings in Kuala Lumpur are in poor condition. We are unable to rebuild because based on Act 757 Section 57(6), we need 100 percent consent from the owner before restoring a building", he said in a media conference in Putrajaya.

KPKT also plans to enact a Residential Rental Bill, in addition to amending four bills.

These include, Housing Development Bill, Town and Country Planning Bill.

He added that a total of 82 engagement sessions were held for the purpose of amending and drafting the bill.
