KOTA TINGGI, February 26- The 31st ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) retreat began today in Desaru, Johor by bringing together representatives from 10 ASEAN member countries, while Timor-Leste is present as an observer.
The conference started with a Preparatory Senior Economic Officials' Meeting to discuss the direction of the regional economy, in line with the theme "ASEAN 2025: Inclusivity and Sustainability" which emphasises economic integration and balanced development.
The conference, scheduled until Friday, will culminate with the chairing of the retreat by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.
The organisation of the 31st AEM not only strengthens Malaysia's commitment to the ASEAN agenda, but also has the potential to elevate Johor as a major destination for tourism and international conferences.
