Sustainable development education should be introduced at the school level - Zaliha

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa

KUALA LUMPUR, August 8 - Education based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) should be introduced at the school level.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa believes that the initiative can be created through both formal and informal education.

She said it will give exposure to young people in aspects of environmental sustainability and community health, thus ensuring a balance between the country’s development and natural ecosystem.

“SDG should be formed from childhood. We can also cooperate with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to ensure that SDG subjects can be made a formal or informal subject where in the end, children can learn not only by coming to certain centres but also at school.

"We can have a direct discussion with the MoE, with the minister because I often discuss this matter but not in a formal manner...maybe after this we will discuss it more formally, in a more focused and direct manner," she said.

Dr. Zaliha Mustafa said this when met after a field trip to the proposed SDG Center site, Kuala Lumpur City Gallery Building (KLCG), here.

The KLCG Building, which is the Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library Building, was proposed as the new location for SDG Kuala Lumpur centre as part of effort from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to expand the functions and space of the existing SDG Center.
